For the longest time, I let my hooks get lonely while exploring my newfound love of knitting. Well, lately, my hooks have been getting more use than my needles. I'm a far better 'hooker' than I am a knitter...
I want to do some serious stash busting and knitting just takes too long for that. I've gone back to making shawls and afghans/lapghans. I'm in 2 CALs on Crafster, one for the Seraphina shawl (gotta love that pattern!) and the rectangular granny afghan. I've made one rect. granny before, for my b/f (who loves it and uses it daily when the weather's chilly...). This time around, I'm trying to use up all my Wool Ease that I didn't use up for other things. I probably have close to 20 skeins in various colors (mostly mushroom and blue mist).
I had a huge 16 ounce skein of turquoise 'pound of love' yarn that I hadn't thought to do anything with so I used that for the Seraphina shawl. I really like how it's turning out... kind of lacy and not heavy at all. The only thing I don't like about that yarn is that it tangles at the drop of a hat. It's by not means a pull skein so I had to pull the 'guts' out and go from there. I like it so much, I went out and bought 3 more skeins of that though. For acrylic, it has a nice, soft, almost cottony texture to it.
I haven't put my needles down entirely though. I have a simple garter stitch shawl on my size 13s and a feather and fan shawl on my size 15s. I'm hoping to get the Seraphina done for myself and get a few more shawls done so I can donate them. I still have yet to attempt helmet liners, something that I've been wanting to make for the troops but I just can't seem to concentrate long enough to get one started. Thankfully, I have the needles that I need for this project.
The weather here has been brutal with heavy snow... in April! Sadly, my b/f is home and can't help me with snow removal so at 5 am yesterday, I broke down and started shoveling... took me the better part of 2 hours to get most of the way done. By then, my back was screaming so I took a break, ate something and went back out when I felt a little better. Thankfully, the snow hasn't been a problem since.
