Yep, I caught it.... At the big yarn sale this week at Michael's, I got a ton of Sassy Stripes (Moda Dea) and I just finished up my first toe up sock early early this morning. It's not perfect... I know I made a lot of mistakes and it looks funny but it's my first real sock with a real heel!!! *happy dance* The toe on the second one looks different and I know what I did wrong (or right?) but I'm not going back and redoing it. I really want these done so I can wear them when I go to visit my best friend on Tuesday/Wednesday (depending on when I can actually get out of here...). I've started on the foot portion and hopefully, I'll have some uninterrupted knitting time tonight where I don't have to go out for anything other than a quick trip to Walmart to get a sleeping bag (long story...).
I do have to say that I'm not thrilled with the 'non softness' of acrylic sock yarn. Now... I want the real deal to work with. My friend told me that he found a yarn store not terribly far from his house so I might talk him into taking me out there if things work out to where we're not terribly busy after I arrive.
I'm treating this pair of socks as my 'learning' pair. I'm not making an effort to correct the mistakes that I've made but I'm aware of the mistakes and I'm trying to make note of them as I go. The best part was doing the short row heel. At first, even though I've done short rows before, I sort of 'forgot' how (I made a few Calorimetry's (sp?) from Knitty and that pattern uses short rows) but for some reason, I just... could not... get... the heel pattern.
After pouring over several tutorials for short row heels for toe up socks, I was finally able to wrap my head around how to do it. The feeling when I got the heel done was great! Then, when I went to start the 2nd sock, I had a little trouble getting the toe started but I looked up the 'easy toe' thing on Knitty and I remembered. I'm really proud of myself for getting through this.
Oddly, there are so many things that I want to get done. I have a whole new 'WIP' list now....
I know there's an afghan with that same pattern stitch (Arctic Afghan) but I've tried doing a one piece afghan and it's hard to do for me. Crocheted one piece afghans are hard enough... I get tired of turning them all the time. Scarf width, one at a time and seaming isn't a big deal to me and it's quite a bit more portable than a big afghan.
I'm in a dilemma as to what projects to bring with me. Socks for sure but I was thinking about bringing the MAM afghan with me since that's done in strips. I also like the Caribbean scarf-ghan too. All those are portable and won't weight me down too badly.
Oh, I'm also starting what I hope will be a great felted tote/project bag. I met up with a lady at the yarn sale who had the most gorgeous felted purse. We got to talking and she told me how she did it. 2 strands of wool, in the round on size 13 needles. That just spurred me on to buy a bunch of Paton's Classic Wool LOL Now, I probably have enough for 3 monster bags plus enough for a few pairs of felted slippers (another thing that I want to try making...).
Ugh, so many projects, so few hands to make them.

- Long Open shawl
- Mile-a-minute afghan for best friend's Mom
- socks
- Home made hat but I think I'm going to frog that and make socks with that yarn
- Clapotis.... had one started but frogged that and want to start a new one
- Caribbean scarf-ghan (made from possibly 6-7 scarves made from the Caribbean scarf pattern)
