Made out like a bandit...

I know it's way past Christmas but since I haven't posted an entry since before that, I guess that's where I'll start this one... my bf got me the Harmony interchangeable set!! *happy dance* He's sooooo sweet :b The best part is that for my birthday (this past Sunday... ironically enough, the same day as the Super Bowl....), he got me the sock yarn sampler from Knit Picks, a size 2 circ (32 inch length) and in addition to that, 2 skeins of Risata sock yarn (in dusk and buttermilk). So, I have enough yarn for 8 pairs of socks!!! Yeah, I'm a happy camper now :D

I've been playing around with possible patterns. Although, so far, I've only done toe up socks and I'm hesitant to use my precious real sock yarn for trying out new patterns so I'm going to use my Sassy Stripes yarn to try the other patterns out first. But at the moment, I'm using the Essentials blue/violet multi for a straight up toe up pair. I really love how soft it is.

I just moved to South Portsmouth, KY to be nearer to my b/f and his family and hopefully, I'll find a job soon. I promised myself that I wouldn't order anymore yarn/needles from Knit Picks until I was gainfully employed. As it stands, with my stash, I really don't 'need' any yarn, other than possibly sock yarn but for the moment, I'm well stocked on that and I'm okay on needles other than wanting the smaller size circs. But, I have sock DPNs in sizes 000, 00, and 1 so if need be, I can use those. I might give those a try with the next pair that I knit.

I'm trying to be frugal in my yarn 'wants', keeping it to yarn that I really need for a specific purpose and so far, I have enough for what I need. All told, I have roughly 10 big (XL) Zip Lock storage bags full of yarn, plus, about 4 trash bags full too. So... I have more than enough. Some of that is going to go to Becky, my knitting buddy. My b/f and I are probably going to go see her and her b/f (both friends of ours) this spring and she'll be inheriting at least 2 bags of my stash, if not more.

Wow... it's been a while...

I guess life or whatever passes for my life got the better of me. I have been busy knitting/crocheting up a relative storm lately. I finally finished a top down raglan sweater!!! Yay me!! Overall, I'm fairly happy with how it fits except that the neckline got all stretched out and stayed that way, even after washing. Lesson learned... go next size down for neckline... and use smaller needles for neckline... In spite of the fact that I've been buying yarn lately, I've also been trying to use up the older parts of my stash (and, I'll probably end up sending at least some of it to my g/f in Indiana since she's short on yarn and I have so much...). I've been making hats like they're going out of style. I've made 3 so far (one for my b/f, who seems to really like that I went to the trouble of making it in the Bengals team colors). It's a really simple pattern that I found on Craftster (someone was asking a question about the pattern and I became inspired...

Sock fever....

Yep, I caught it.... At the big yarn sale this week at Michael's, I got a ton of Sassy Stripes (Moda Dea) and I just finished up my first toe up sock early early this morning. It's not perfect... I know I made a lot of mistakes and it looks funny but it's my first real sock with a real heel!!! *happy dance* The toe on the second one looks different and I know what I did wrong (or right?) but I'm not going back and redoing it. I really want these done so I can wear them when I go to visit my best friend on Tuesday/Wednesday (depending on when I can actually get out of here...). I've started on the foot portion and hopefully, I'll have some uninterrupted knitting time tonight where I don't have to go out for anything other than a quick trip to Walmart to get a sleeping bag (long story...). I do have to say that I'm not thrilled with the 'non softness' of acrylic sock yarn. Now... I want the real deal to work with. My friend told me that he found a ...

Blah...

The past few days, I haven't felt up to doing anything.. shawls laying unworked on... The only thing that I feel up to doing lately is afghan squares (knitted plain stockinette). I would have gone garter but the knitted shawls that I'm doing are in garter so I'm tired of that. I'm trying to use up all the bulky yarn that I have (Bernat Softee Chunky and Shetland Chunky) for this (other than the charcoal Shetland Chunky... that's set aside for a Seraphina shawl). I think I'm gonna go back to bed for a while...
